On the whole, eating out in Florence has definitely improved over the past few years and now the choice of restaurants and eateries is bewildering. It is easy however to choose the 'bad eggs' and we hope that by following this list and avoiding anywhere that looks too touristy (you are likely to get just an average non-Italian meal where menu turistico is written outside the door, in five languages including Japanese), and instead, just stopping at a random trattoria the more likely you will eat well. If still uncertain, you can always gauge the standard of the restaurant by looking for a sticker by a respected Italian restaurant guide, maybe one of the following:
Gambero Rosso's Ristoranti d'Italia
Veronelli
L'Espresso
Slow Food's Osterie d'Italia
And don't forget to check if there are plenty of locals eating there - another good sign.
