The concentration of bars and cafes in Florence is a little testament to the well known fact that Italians love coffee and part of their daily routine involves going to a local at least once a day to have a coffee- not a coffee like we know it though. The Italians prefer a short strong coffee- the espresso! The traditional bars and cafes are really the social meeting point of the city and form the backbone of all Florentine life. Bars and cafés in Florence (and all over the rest of Italy) also double up as wineries, brasseries serving snacks and buffet lunches.
